Little Bear Westsail 32 refit: Raymarine i70s Blog# 154

Arrrrr me hearties. Welcome aboard.

I do apologize for the quality of this video. I primarily use a GoPro to record all my videos.  In this video the result is that all the light sources show up really brightly. So when I show the display of the i70 it just shows as white light. 😦  sorry about that.

Little Bear Westsail 32 refit: What’s a ‘Hockle’? Blog# 153

Arrrrr me hearties. Welcome aboard.

What is a hockle? I didn’t know until I saw it and discovered that there’s a technical name for it.  It’s basically a situation where three strand braided rope starts to unbraid and twist.

Time to route the wiring for the Raymarine multi-function device.

Little Bear Westsail 32 refit: New Electro Scan Blog# 150

Arrrrr me hearties. Welcome aboard.

Out with the old, in with the new.  The new Electro Scan unit arrived and I’m going to install that bad boy. Or good boy as the case may be.  This is an expense I had not anticipated, wasn’t in the budget, and I didn’t want to make, but in the long run I think it will be the right choice.

This wasn’t too difficult to install.  The instructions were clear enough, even for an old geezer like me.  I had as much problem trying to secure the unit as I did installing it.  I bought a nylon strap with a winch to hold it in place. At some point I will epoxy some wood around the base to prevent any forward / aft or side to side slippage. So thats it for this one…

Little Bear Westsail 32 refit: Glass & Biley wiring Blog# 147

Arrrrr me hearties. Welcome aboard.

More bilge pump wiring, and more liquid joinery.

Some discussion about the price of electronic parts. Quite ridiculous. Obscene even. But it is what it is and if I want to get things done and done nicely, it’s going to cost a bit.

Little Bear Westsail 32 refit: Glass & Bilgey Blog# 146

Arrrrr me hearties. Welcome aboard.

Some more lovely liquid joinery. I just love working with epoxy. Oh the wonders of modern chemistry.  It makes all-thumbs schlubs like me able to fix things.

Good thing I have a background in electronics.  It’s been many years since I sat at a workbench and wired things up but that training has served me well here on Little Bear.

I did get the pump & switch installed and gave it a test run. It’s fun to see water shooting out of the boat. Like it has to take a pee or something.

Little Bear Westsail 32 refit: Spreader lights & Nav lights installed Blog #124

Arrrrr me hearties. Welcome aboard.

With the lights attached to the spreaders, it’s time to get the spreaders on the mast. The challenge with this project, was the grommets. Firstly, it was a surprise to me how rare these beasties are. I bought a box of various sizes at a local auto parts shop but they were pvc plastic and proved to be way too difficult to insert. So I had to hunt around on the `net and order some rubber ones because there were none to be found locally.

I installed the tri-light on the mast head and then I cleverly remembered to orient it correctly in relation to the boat. More on this come mast install day.

I then hooked up and installed the mast nav lights. I had to revisit the spreader light mounts because one side had been knocked loose.

With all the wiring and lights installed, the spreader stays attached to their new brackets, the coax has a connector installed, the next step is to have the rigger come and put the stick up but thats a story for another day…
