Little Bear Westsail 32 refit: Boomkin Bashing Blog #58

Arrrrr me hearties! Welcome aboard.

At this stage of the game I’m going to do some more work on the boomkin. Besides the problem with the deck holes not being aligned I also had a bit of a challenge to overcome with creating the epoxy filled  holes for the stainless steel back-stay fitting. The boomkin beams are angled from the relatively narrow backstay fitting to either side of the cockpit. So I had to cut an angle on the ends of the boomkin beams that matched the fitting.

I used a bevel square to get the angle correct and identical on both beams. With the correct tools the job was pretty straight forward.

I am also repairing the various cracks, divots, chips and splinters in the cap rail. It would be a travesty to put back the cap rail in the same condition it came off so I’m repairing and refurbishing it to the best of my ability.

Fair winds, following seas, and God  bless.
